Treatments in Wickford

Everyday dentistry, NHS and private. Every new patient starts with a check-up, and you get a written plan with costs before any treatment.

How it helps

Problems found early are smaller, cheaper and easier to fix. You leave knowing exactly where you stand.

What’s involved

We ask about your health and any worries, check every tooth, your gums, tongue and cheeks, and take X-rays if they’re due. Then we explain what we found on the screen beside you.

Risks and side effects

A check-up carries very little risk. X-rays use a very small dose, and we only take them when they’re needed.

Aftercare

Nothing special. You can eat and drink straight away.

How it helps

Removes hardened build-up you can’t brush away, which helps keep gums healthy and breath fresh.

What’s involved

The hygienist cleans above and below the gum line with a gentle ultrasonic scaler and hand tools, then polishes. Tell us if anything is sensitive and we’ll use numbing gel.

Risks and side effects

Gums can feel tender or bleed a little for a day or two. Teeth may feel sensitive to cold for a short while.

Aftercare

Use a soft brush for a couple of days. Warm salt water rinses help if your gums feel sore.

How it helps

Stops decay spreading, eases pain and saves the tooth wherever we can.

What’s involved

We numb the area first and check it’s numb before we start. For a filling we remove the decay and rebuild the tooth. Root canal treatment cleans and seals the inside of the tooth, usually over one or two visits.

Risks and side effects

Numbness lasts a few hours. Teeth can be sensitive for a few days. Root canal treatment doesn’t always work, and an extraction can lead to a painful socket, which we’ll tell you how to spot.

Aftercare

Wait until the numbness wears off before eating. After an extraction, avoid hot drinks, smoking and rinsing for 24 hours.

How it helps

Gets you out of pain quickly and stops a small problem turning into a bigger one.

What’s involved

Call before 10am on a weekday and we’ll offer you a same-day slot if one is free. We find the cause, relieve the pain and give you a plan and price for anything else needed.

Risks and side effects

Some problems need more than one visit. If you have swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, call 999 or go to A&E.

Aftercare

We’ll give you written advice for your situation before you leave.

How it helps

A brighter smile, done gradually at home so you control the shade.

What’s involved

A check-up first to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy. We take impressions to make trays that fit you, then show you how to use the gel at home for about two weeks.

Risks and side effects

Teeth and gums can feel sensitive during treatment. Fillings and crowns don’t change colour. Results vary from person to person.

Aftercare

Avoid strongly coloured food and drinks during treatment. Top-up gel is available when you want it.

How it helps

Straighter teeth with clear trays you can take out to eat and brush.

What’s involved

A 30-minute consultation and scan first. If aligners suit you, we show you a plan of how your teeth would move and the full cost before you decide. You then wear a new set of trays every week or two.

Risks and side effects

Teeth can ache for a day or two with each new set. Results depend on wearing the trays 22 hours a day, and teeth can move back without retainers.

Aftercare

You’ll need to wear retainers at night after treatment to keep teeth in place.
