Back pain
We see back pain every day, from a sudden twinge after lifting to an ache that has been around for years. Every patient starts with a 45-minute assessment.
About back pain
Most back pain isn’t caused by anything serious, and a lot of it settles on its own. But it can be worrying, and it can stop you working, sleeping and doing what you enjoy. That’s usually when people come to see us.
In your assessment we try to work out what is driving your pain, and what is getting in your way, then we agree what to do about it together.
What’s involved
- A conversation about your pain, your work and your health history
- Looking at how you move: bending, twisting, sitting, standing
- Nerve checks such as reflexes and sensation, if your pain spreads into your leg
- A clear explanation of what we think is going on, and your options
- Where it’s right for you, treatment on the day: hands-on work, exercises, or advice on work and activity
Risks and side effects
Hands-on treatment and new exercises can leave you sore for a day or two, a bit like after unaccustomed exercise. Tell us if that happens. If anything in your history means a treatment isn’t suitable, we’ll explain why and suggest something else.
Aftercare and recovery
You’ll leave with a short list of exercises, written down and sent by email with videos. Everyone recovers at a different pace, so we don’t promise a number of sessions. We review progress at each visit and you decide whether to book again.
Cost
Follow-ups £50 for 30 minutes. All fees
Starts with a face-to-face assessment.
